Adult Company
Responsibility
|
With
Democrats and Republicans alike passing laws and going after
adult companies with a wide variety of laws and attacks
it seems that the industry needs to collaborate in order
to unify our voices. If we can do this we can take a proactive
stance rather than a reactive and most often defensive one.
Clearly,
we are interested in protecting ourselves, we read the news,
we seek legal advice, we may even spend a lot of time jumping
through one hoop after another to remain compliant with
not only current laws but looming ones.

Yet,
we lack a common thread, a community in which we come together
to approach politicians before they approach us via law enforcement.
Why are we not coming up with our own self regulations in which
we create a type of internal certification that allows us to show
that we are a law abiding, conscientious company that is part
of the solution to societal problems; not contributors.
It
is high time that we demonstrate to the community that it is the
adult industry that more often than not caters to the healthy
adult sexual nature. From education to entertainment we are meeting
the needs that society demands, yet shoved into the closet like
an adulterous lover. As we hide we hope we won't be destroyed
by the very "collective majority" that put us into business
in the first place.
Why
do we settle as being the hypothetical Cinderella... working our
little hearts out to bring couples together, enhance the sex lives
of our fellow man and educating the extremely, sexually ignorant
society while the government makes us the target of all the wrongs
of society. Why should we hand over 25% of our income while oil
tycoons pay for war, taking lives and billions and laugh all the
way to the bank.
Are
we really willing to settle much longer to walk around with the
scarlet letter pinned to our chest and take the abuse, or can
we begin to wake up and see the need that we need to take control
of our destinies through empowering communication, lobbying and
unification.
While
the big corporations like Hustler, Vivid, and others have a legal
team that the government would think twice about taking on, it
is the smaller companies that have the most to worry about.
Yet,
we stay silent, huddled in our corners hoping that we won't be
targeted for a witch hunt? And remember, the kind of witch hunt
I speak of is a Monty Python sketch where the police are slapping
on a false nose and the crowd of sexually repressed Christian
Right (which is usually neither) scream for us to burn so that
they can sleep at night hoping that they don't have to one day
face their inherent sexual natures.
It
is time to come together. For as the great Martin Luther King
Jr. once said, "In the end, we will remember not the words
of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
